These People and Projects Are Strong Contenders for a Computable Award

This is the shortlist for the Computable Awards in the categories IT Person, Projects of the Year (5x), and Tech Startups. They are still in the running to win a Computable Award on Thursday, 22 May.

Officially, we refer to the Computable & Cybersec Awards, as in addition to the categories below, there are also two Cybersec Awards: Best Cybersecurity Innovation Europe and Best Cybersecurity Project & Program Europe. The awards will be presented on 22 May from 16:00 during a show hosted by Wim De Vilder, with William Visterin (of Cybersec Europe/Computable) as co-host.

As per tradition, one award has already been announced: the IT Lifetime Achievement Award. This year, it goes to Martine Tempels, former Executive Vice President at Telenet Business and founder of CoderDojo Belgium.

IT Person of the Year

The final selection for IT Person of the Year (in alphabetical order):

  • Jan De Bock – Managing Partner at consultancy firm Delaware, known for its unique culture, pragmatic approach, and strong support for young talent.

  • Katja Schipperheijn – Author, influencer, futurist, and keynote speaker focusing on the impact of technology on learning, work, and society.

  • Valerie Taerwe – Director Design & Build at AE, and founder of We Go Stem & The ADA Talks, advocating for inclusion in tech and STEM education.

  • Thomas Van Eeckhout – CEO of Easi, a Belgian IT service provider in software, cloud, and security. Under his leadership, the company has repeatedly been named a Best Workplace.

  • Michel Verwaerde – Country Leader Belux at network and cloud provider GTT, successfully steering the company through many (brand) transitions.

Tech Startup of the Year

The following startups are competing for Tech Startup of the Year. They will pitch on 22 May at 14:30 in the Tech Theatre at Cybersec Europe:

Social Innovation of the Year

The longlist for Social Innovation was already announced. Below is the shortlist of five initiatives that will be featured during the award show:

  • Google Schooltijd – Promoting digital well-being among students

  • Molengeek – Training for youth from diverse backgrounds

  • Out of Use – A ‘one-stop shop’ for decommissioned IT hardware
